Updated Guidelines for the Management of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)
A multidisciplinary guideline panel from the American Society of Hematology (ASH), with support from the McMaster University Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) Centre, has drafted a list of 28 recommendations for the initial venous thromboembolism (VTE) management, primary treatment, secondary prevention and the treatment of recurrent VTE events.1
Differences between the ASH and 4 other recent guidelines concerning the management of patients with VTE include the consistent use of systematic reviews and evidence-to-decision frameworks as well as the use of marker states to estimate the relative importance of key treatment outcomes to patients.1
Strong and new recommendations are highlighted in Table 1 with the list of 28 recommendations summarized in Table 2.
